We lose.......again. Minnesota's finest team came up one run short tonight, and I listened to it on the radio. Yep, it was me, in the kitchen, doing dishes as Brian Anderson made a fine diving catch to end our season (I saw it on replay). It's just as well, as I was about to "borrow" 20 bucks from my daughter (I would have paid it back!) Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy listening to ball games on the radio. It's a terrific radio sport, and our local guys do a decent enough job. I just would have liked to seen this beauty, and it apparently it was a dandy as John Gordan repeated the phrase, "WHAT A BALLgame!" about a 272 times from the 5th inning on. GOD it was just sickening. I GET IT GORDO; IT'S AN O.K. BALL GAME. I DON'T NEED TO BE REMINDED AFTER EVERY AT-BAT!!!!!!!!!
What bothered me the most was you could tell it was more of a: "It's ok if we lose, Twins-fans, because we are watching a GREAT FUCKING BALL GAME!!!" AAAAAAAAAAAH!
And does this guy, Gordon,LOVE hyperbole. After the game, he commented that the contest would be remembered as the greatest elimination game, everrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Ummmm, good game? Yes. More memorable than Bucky Dent's 3 run blast at Fenway? NO WAY.
However, there are some things I like about the radio broadcast. Firstly, you can hear the fans. Sometimes, they're moronic, which is fun, and other times, but rarely, they actually have intelligent insight. Tonight's example of this was during one of the rare times when we had a guy on 1st base--it was 2-2 count and some guy yelled: "C'mon, you gotta get 'em here, we don't wanna go 3 and 2!!" Well said novel South Sider. Furthermore, the announcers often provide insightful details of the game. Things you never hear on the Tube. For example, Span was on first and was going to steal 2nd, but, as Dan Gladden pointed out, Span noticed that Danks used a quick slide step to home, on the pitch, so he came to a quick stop after taking a couple strides towards 2nd. Good stuff.
Season's over.....GO CUBS!!!!
